A gentler way to explore Dartmoor: introducing Dartmoor Partner

Rugged Dartmoor landscape with rocky cliffs and a path by a pond. "Dartmoor Partner" text, icons, and yellow details highlight adventures.

At CoWorking Devon, we often talk about building businesses that reflect the lives we want to lead. Ventures with purpose, flexibility and heart. Dartmoor Partner is one of those.

It’s a new project from our founder Jack, developed quietly alongside running CWD and raising a young family. And while it’s only just beginning to make its way into the world, it carries a very real intention: to make Dartmoor more accessible, less overwhelming and easier to enjoy for families who want to explore it.

Dartmoor Partner is a digital directory of handpicked, family-friendly walking routes. Designed with clarity, care and lived experience, it’s built for parents who want to get outside with their children but often don’t know where to start.

Right now, three walks are available to try for free. The full 35-route collection launches this summer, and the waiting list is open right now for you to get yourself signed up.

This is one of those ideas that quietly answers a question so many people have been asking. And we’re proud to introduce it.

Explore Dartmoor. A simpler way to plan time outside

For anyone who’s ever loaded kids into the car with good intentions and no clear plan, Dartmoor Partner will feel familiar. The idea came from that exact moment, the desire to get out for a walk, but not knowing where to go, what the route’s like, or whether it’s even suitable.

Even as locals, that challenge is real. Dartmoor is vast, beautiful and full of possibility, but also unpredictable and under-signposted. And for families, that unpredictability adds pressure. One wrong turn, one closed gate, one misjudged route and the day can unravel quickly.

Jack built Dartmoor Partner as a response to that. Not just for himself, but for anyone trying to balance family life with a love for the outdoors.

Each route in the directory is walked and written up in detail. There are no vague notes or recycled descriptions. Every walk includes parking info, quick-view safety notes, honest terrain breakdowns and suggestions for whether to bring the buggy or switch to a carrier. If you want some live video footage of these spots, go over to their Instagram page and watch their reels! There are also tips on where to stop for lunch, paddle in a stream, or simply enjoy the view.

It’s a calm, user-friendly tool to help families get outside more easily, with less stress and more joy.

Helping children grow, and parents relax

At the heart of Dartmoor Partner is something deeper than just walking.

This project is rooted in Jack’s belief that outdoor time supports childhood development in simple but powerful ways. Every route is designed with exploration in mind, encouraging children to move, notice, ask questions and lead the way.

It’s not about completing a hike. It’s about building confidence, connection and awareness. Learning to move through a landscape. Spotting birds, streams, mossy rocks, the sudden shift in wind. Feeling the change of seasons underfoot.

And for parents, it’s a chance to loosen the grip. To not be in charge of everything. To stop googling furiously in the car and simply trust that the information is there. Clear, accurate, and made with families in mind.

This is time outside that feels good for everyone.

Accessible, digital and designed around real life

Dartmoor Partner isn’t an app or a printed guide. It’s a clean, digital platform you can access from your phone or desktop. No ads, no distractions, no confusing menus. Plus, aswell as all the route details on each route website page, you can also download the step-by-step guides of each walk.

Each route includes:

  • Clear written directions, structured for real-world use

  • Parking info with What3Words for easy arrival

  • Buggy suitability, dog safety and carrier recommendations

  • Optional extended versions for families who want to go further

  • Tips on food, shelter and nearby cafes and pubs!

  • Honest notes on whether it’s quiet, exposed, muddy or family-proof

You’ll also find a quick-access panel at the top of every walk, making it easy to decide what suits your day and your energy.

There’s no one-size-fits-all here. Just real walks, for real families, on real days.

Three nature trail cards: Yarner Wood, Foggintor Quarry, Bench Tor. Each features landscapes, trail lengths, difficulties, and key icons.

Launching soon, but ready to explore now

While the full Dartmoor Partner directory of 35 routes is set to launch this summer, three complete routes are already available for free. These are open to all and give a clear sense of what to expect from the full collection.

If you like what you see, you can join the waiting list now to be the first to access the full membership when it goes live.

Annual membership will be just £16.50, or £25 for supporters who want to invest a little more in the growth of the project and receive early access to new features and updates. Everything is included. No upsells, no extras, no limited-time unlocks. Just one clear, affordable entry point for families who want to explore Dartmoor with confidence.

A partner, not a platform

The name says it all. Dartmoor Partner is about walking alongside you. Not telling you what to do or how to do it, but simply offering guidance, tools and reassurance so that the moor feels a little more yours.

It’s also built with collaboration in mind, including early partnerships with the Dartmoor Preservation Association and Moorland Guides. These connections support the project’s commitment to accessibility, conservation and responsible engagement with the landscape.

Explore it for yourself
